rid of her. I don't want her in my house (I'm allergic) but I feel sorry for her living outside. It's really cold now and now I think she's pregnant. I would hate for her to deliver her kittens outside. Does anyone know of any animal shelters in New York City that would take her in, spay her (if it's not too late) and put her up for adoption?

Hi there...here's a list of shelters in NYC:
http://www.animalhavenshelter.org/
http://www.nycacc.org/
http://www.petsalive.com/
http://www.littleshelter.com/

If you are unable to find a shelter to take the cat consider posting on either free online classifieds such as Petfinder http://www.petfinder.com or NYC Craigslist: http://newyork.craigslist.org/pet/ . Be sure to ask for a small adoption fee (e.g. $15) to disuade people who are looking for a free pet to sell to research labs, use for dog bait training, snake food or worse mistreatment. Ask prospective adopters that you would like to conduct a home inspection monthly for 3 months to ensure the well-being of the cat as well. You can negotiate the adoption fee if you feel you have found a good home and refund the money after a few months. People scour Craigslist every minute daily so you may find someone pretty quickly.

letting this kitten or cat go at this time would only be bad for her, she obviously chose you to be with and thats where she wants to be, there are many meds to help your allergic reactions from her.

Unless you yourself really doesnt want the cat around anymore, it would be wise to simply stick it out and wait until a more comfortable situation comes about. Shelters and pet havens really are overcrowded especially during the holidays..

Stay with her and first make sure she isnt pregnant, if she is you'll have some work to do, but again it'll be so much more effective for this feline if you stick by her and help her through this time, you've already been feeding her and she's probably gone through some rough times before finding you..she now loves you so just love her back and you'll she how much she needs you

Now is not the time to give up this cat, stay strong and be patient God will help you with this small obstacle in your life and you both will get through and be better off as you both stuck together instead of simply giving her up or away.

Please check the Yellow Pages for the number for the Humane Society or some similar orgainization; I know that they are active and helpful in the New York area because Animal Planet (on TV) does a series set in New York called "Animal Precinct". They will help you and may come for the cat if you call them and will spay her and find her (and her kittens, if necessary) a home. Please do something right away! My sister had an outdoor kitty whom she loved but could not keep because she has pet birds, plus her live-in boy friend is allergic to cats. Anyway, some larger animal attacked and killed the kitten, and my sister was devastated. I have an indoor cat I never let out; I tell her, "Dangers are lurking out there!" You will be doing the cat a huge favor if you can rescue her. Good luck!

Try the ASPCA. That's the first place Animal Planet started shooting their Heroes series. If you can't do that, call your local animal control. They can humanely trap her, have her spayed and if she's had kittens, can get them, too. If they are in good health, they can find new homes. Also, they can test for common illnesses of feral cats such as Feline Leukemia and FIV. If the animal(s) have worms, they can be treated. It is possible to spay a pregnant cat, they would abort the kittens if they were going to spay her immediately.

One other possibility is you can try to trap her yourself and then call animal control.

well first, you should try and search on the internet or in the classifieds for New York City animal shelters. Then, try and go to to the vet and try and get an ultrasound for the cat. Try telling the vet that the cat adopted you as it's owner and tell her you can't keep it any longer. Maybe they will know what to do. Good Luck!

Oh my goodness! Try calling Bide A Wee.
Bide-A-Wee Mahattan Clinic: (212) 532-5884
http://www.bideawee.org/clinics.asp
is the website. You are a wonderful person for feeding this kitty. It IS too cold outside. If I didn't have 3 already I might consider meeting you to take her. Good luck.
I hope I helped.

I've had a similiar situation of a stray cat falling in love with me. They sent him to the animal shelter, other cats triggered his cancer, and he was put to sleep at 6months, when he could've lived for 2years. Just something for you to think about.

I'm not familiar with NYC, but you should be able to get a list of feline rescues from your local Petsmart or Petco.

call the aspca or if you want to keep her get a small dog house staple a denim door to it, fill it with straw and she will be fine
