my husband is a biologist and we both went to an environemental liberal arts college and we both watched an inconvenient truth...i believe, he does not. it has to do with the arguments of your choosing and how much weight you give the evidence (assuming you;re aware of it all)...i personally think my husband is mistaken but i'm sure he feels the same about me. go figure

I've got two science degrees and I don't believe in global warming either. Perhaps the people who believe in an unproven theory are the dumb ones?

I imagine he is simply using good scientific method unlike the majority that are operating on the idea that if you repeat it loud and long enough it becomes a fact. Global warming is not proven and the science behind it is very shaky.

The question of a possible global warming caused by humans is still so debated that you cannot classify as dumb a person that has surely studied more than you.

The matter of global warming is so complex and difficult to understand that no one can with a reasonable degree of confidence say yes or no.

Remember that the volvano Pinatubo 4 or 5 years ago erupted such a mass of ashes that we had two relatively cold summers.....

I personally am a man of science and I have a degree in science.

Do not throw lightly such judgements.

It's pretty dumb. But here's a couple of hints about how to deal with situations like that. First of all, talk to your parents--let them know--and follow their advice.

Personally, I would suggest that you not challenge this teacher in class--or talk about him with your classmates at schoool. The reson is that people like this teacher are not only dumb, they are not very nice to people who point out their mistakes. You focus on learning the science--and getting a good grade. If there is a way to do something about this teacher, your parents are in a better position to do it. And for this, and other things that you may be interested in, try these websites--I know they are reliable ones:
nasa.gov (space and environment, especially global warming/climate change) (you can also watch some of the space launches live here)
space.com--lots of goood stuf on spacetravel and astronomy
livescience.com (it migght be .org)--pretty much everything.
PBS.org--all kinds of stuff, including additional information about topics on the PBS series NOVA

BTW--your teacher has a degree in education --or he couldn't get certified to teach. But he may or may not have a degree in science--not all schools require it, though they should.

And one more thing--generally I tell people to stand up for themselves and say what they think--but this really is a situation that you should let your parents handle.

And BTW, I am a scientist myself--though in a differentfield--and a college instructor. Just so you know I know what I'm talking about.

I know several very educated people, some of them professional meteorologists who believe that the temperature variations we are having are perfectly normal.

Professionals tend not to jump on bandwagons. In the seventies everyone thought we'd be out of oil by now. There was a phase when everyone thought that the o-zone would be completely destroyed and no-one could go outside during the day.

It may turn out that man-made global warming is 100% true, but it is not stupid to believe otherwise. Right now global warming is not much more than a crackpot baseless theory. It's a way to make money and get people excited over nothing.

Personally, I believe we may be in a lot of trouble. I believe we are greatly disrupting natural weather. I believe that a lot of people are going to be hurt by our ignorance. I do, however, respect the opinion of other people.

He doesn't believe in Global Warming or he doesn't believe humans are impacting Global Warming? -- these are two very different things. Global Warming is a fact the debate is if humans are causing a significant increase.

People believe in different things. Even though he teaches earth sciences doesn't meant he believes in global warming. Not believing something doesn't grant someone the inability in teaching it.
"Ghosts are the apparitions of the dead, beings often believed to be forms of a person who has come back from the dead in another form."
I don't believe in ghosts, but I can still relay facts to other people about them.

search for truth. ask questions and find reasons to refute or support your teacher's position, the truth will show itself if you are diligent and intelligent

calling your teacher dumb without doing this is dumb
