Hi Janet..don't run out and buy an expensive rice cooker....you can do it on top of the stove and it will be great!

In a medium size pot place 2 cups of cold water. Add 1 cup of rice.

Bring to a boil and boil about 3 minutes.

Place tight fitting cover on pot. Then turn off the heat and let set covered about 20-25 minutes. Set your kitchen timer...then remove the lid and fluff with a fork. Taste a grain of rice to see if it's done.

Always works for me.

Some people add 1/4 teaspoon of salt and a pat of butter. If I'm using it with Asian food I don't add anything. Since the soy sauce is already salty.

Best of luck,

Oh, it's really easy - even I can do it. Get a 2-quart pot with non-stick coating and a tight lid. Buy a bag of rice and follow the directions for amount of water and rice. For example, 4 cups of water and 2 cups of rice. Add about a tablespoon of butter and some salt too. As soon as it boils, turn it down to medium low heat and put the lid on. Don't lift the lid and keep an eye on it until all of the water is absorbed and there are small holes on top of the rice where steam is coming out. Then take it off of the heat and leave it sit with the lid on for about five minutes. Lift the lid and fluff with a fork. It's good too to add broth instead of water for more flavor.

Cooking rice although it seems easy is a delicate art. Here you are:

Sautee 1 cup rice with 1 T. of Vegetable Oil until rice starts to change to a white color.
Then add 2 cups of hot water and some salt (to taste).
Let it come to a boil for about 2 minutes.
Then cover and set to low cook for 15 minutes.
After 15min. turn off and let it sit on top of the burner (without uncovering) for at least another 5min.

Good Luck

BOIL IN A BAG is my secret b/c I seem to look away from the pot when cooking instant rice and it's burnt or messed up!! So boil some water, drop the bag in and then pour into your sink, cut rice bag and put back into pot and flavor to your liking!! It's quick and tastes the same. They even have soo many different types/flavors in the bags now too! Good Luck
