my daughter somehow got it to display on the side ,its pretty annoying please help

Click and hold on an area of the task bar that is NOT a button (or similar) and drag it to the bottom of your desktop.

As a side note once you get it back to the bottom. IF you have windows XP you can right click on the bar and there is a listing there that says LOCK Task Bar... this makes it so it wont move on you again.

Mine got that way one time too. It took forever for me to get it right. I ended up holding down the Control key and dragging it back down.

take your mouse arrow over the bar & drag to bottom. You should be able to see the outline of what you want as you direct it and then drop it when you like the outline

Right-click on the taskbar, uncheck "lock the taskbar", drag it to the bottom, right-click it again and check "lock the taskbar". tadaa!
