California is being asked to consider making it a crime to spank children 3 and under. The Bible teaches we are not to spare the rod.

Many Christians would have to go to jail in order to obey God rather than man. Like in the Bible.

I for one will obey God rather than man. No matter the outcome.

I'm not a big fan of spanking. I have witnessed parents hitting their kids while shouting "You don't hit!" or some such nonsense.
There's a fine line between discipline & abuse.

I have spanked my kids, but I made damn sure I wasn't going over the line. No one has a right to tell me how to raise my kids. It has nothing to do with "God" or any government.

If that law passes, I'm moving out of California. Having said that, I doubt that biblical permission or mandate is the reason why Christian parents choose to spank their children.

To answer your underlying question, I will obey both the laws of the land and the laws of the Lord. When there is a conflict, however, God comes first.

I am very curious about this new law and what it is all about. I am not a spanker but I have no problem with spanking as long as it is done with loving discipline. Beating a child in anger is much different than giving your child a pat to get his attention, especially if he is in danger. This law in California, which I don't know much about, may be taking it too far.

Would you stone a child to death for disobeying his parents or for stubborn and rebellious?

Deuteronomy 21:18 - 21

I guarantee there are lots of parts of the bible that you do not follow. Killed any witches lately? Exodus 22:18

If some guys ox accidentally killed someone would you be prepared to stone the ox? Would you be prepared to kill the owner? Exodus 21:29

Do not blindly follow the bible.

the bible doesn't "teach" anything about it. the whole spare the rod thing comes from the book of PROVERBS. as in, sayings made up by people living thousands of years ago and compiled into a book. the proverbs are not the word of G-d.

if you want to follow the traditions of people who lived thousands of years ago and had barely developed the idea of human rights and hit an innocent child, then you belong in prison, with all the other criminals and abusers.

the only rules of God are the guidelines of nature that people don't understand and have no conclusive answer for them. Any and all different rules, which incorporate the ten commandants, are man made rules of which, many are real para-mythology! Have a stable one and God bless!

If what you say is true then why aren't you in jail right now? Haven't you stoned anyone to death yet?
