oldfootlo...: I guess answer your questions you will first have to answer the question:

What is 'will'?

Answer: The 'reason' or 'motive' behind everything we do is...our 'will'.

Then can it be 'free' or 'true', or is it just randomly caused or imposed by our situations or cercomstance?

true will is nonsense: "a term found within the mystical system of Thelema—established in 1904 with Aleister Crowley's writing of The Book of the Law—and is defined at times as a person's grand destiny in life and at other times as a moment to moment path of action that operates in perfect harmony with Nature. This Will does not spring from conscious intent, but from the interplay between the deepest Self and the entire Universe"
(from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/True_Will )

The problem of free will is the problem of whether rational agents exercise control over their own actions and decisions. Addressing this problem requires understanding the relation between freedom and causation, and determining whether or not the laws of nature are causally deterministic. The various philosophical positions taken differ on whether all events are determined or not—determinism versus indeterminism—and also on whether freedom can coexist with determinism or not—compatibilism versus incompatibilism. So, for instance, hard determinists argue that the universe is deterministic, and that this makes free will impossible.

So, in conclusion: true will is so much hooey and free will is very interesting. But does it exist? I like to think so, but I may be only programmed to think so. Here's an interesting article: http://www.newscientist.com/channel/fundamentals/mg19025504.000

Fee will is basically like it says, you are free to do as you wish. True will is Gods pre-determined will for your life.
God has a perfect plan for each of our lives and we get to decide if we will follow it. How do we know what it is? First of all believing in Him, spending time in His word (bible) and prayer. Let me give an example: God's will is like a Highway, we are going along without any problems and then we start to lose focus and take a county road which slows down and we start hitting bumps and curves. The next thing you know we have turned onto a dirt road and it gets worse. We get stuck in the mud. Then we call on God and he shows us how to get back to the Highway were everything is running smooth again. If we would just stay on the Highway where God's perfect will is we could by pass all the heartache and problems that are on the side.

Ok here is the Big differene we have a cozmo of five things that affect spiritual beings as we make choices. God, devil choice and chance but ahh the last but not least would be faith. you see if you have to make a choice between vanilla ice cream and chocolate ice cream and want to know what God and the Devil think they dont care thats were free will comes in. but 2 hrs later your made with a decision on whether to lie or not they both take an interest in this becuase, your going to act by faith and tell the truth or decieve yourself and tell that lie.

I know this to be really true-
Natural man's will is only free to choose the form of sin that most appeals to him. This is the extent of the "free will" that so many on here are always crowing about.

I never heard of true will. How does that work??
I'm 66 that seems stupid to me!
Truth is a fact, how can you have a fact will?
You can't have any 'will' without freedom and liberty.
