If you're referring to Amble in Northumberland. It is an great place to get access to the beauty of Northumberland, with it's castles and national parks. 20-30 minutes drive to Newcastle and a few hours to Edinburgh. Amble itself has a marina - for the sailor in you! You can go to Coquet island which is a nice bird sanctuary. Population about 5.600. A pretty quiet place, but hey you could do alot worse!

If you mean Ambleside... I imagine (having visited frequently and lived there never) that the locals get throroughly p****d off with tourists taking all their parking spaces, wandering about with their eyes on the sky and populating their pubs and restaurants with tales of ticks and mud. They probably stick with it because it's a lovely area and has all the basic amenities you really need (cinema, pubs, shops, other towns nearby, watersports everywhere, etc).

If you're a city type and like your cocktails and hypermarkets, you might want to look elsewhere. If you prefer mountains and appreciate the brilliant workmanship behind building dry stone walls then you'll be in your element. I'm sure there are also some 'normal' people there too.

Oh, and if you really mean Amble (which you probably do, after all my Ambleside mumbling), you could check out this link http://www.amble.co.uk/
Other than that, I have no idea.
