Communication....if u can't communicate then u surely can't translate love in your own way and u fell that the person that is with you doesn't love you at all!
Compromising...because everyone has it's flaws
Honesty...Never build a relationship on lies
And most importantly love...or any of the substitutes of love...passion etc

I think it should be open and causual. The girl cant be a totaly jealous man-hog and the guy cant be a dick head.
