Salmon has a light, delicate taste that you don't want to overwhelm. I would recommend a Riesling (personally I like Piesporter Riesling), which is fruity but not too sweet. Enjoy!

White wines are the proper selection for fish, however it is a matter of taste and preference. I drink red with everything. Does your date prefer white? If you don't know I would go with a Chardonnay, which is not too sweet or dry.
Also, if you're buying the wine at a liquor/wine shop and not the local beer mart ask the person behind the counter. Most good wines will have a description of the taste on a card next to the bottles. If it is a good esatblishment someone will be a bit of a connoisseur.
Good luck.

If you are in reach of a good wine merchant, Alsace Pinot Gris and salmon fit my idea of a perfect match. If no Alsace at hand, maybe Oregon Pinot Gris (in the U.S.), Okanagan Pinot Gris (in Canada), New Zealand Pinot Gris (small lots here there & everywhere). Trust a local merchant for the exact label. They aren't cheap, but the good ones give value for money

Are you grilling indoors or outdoors? With butter or a sauce? I'd have to know that before I could strongly recommend a wine. That being said I would suggest considerations of a good, crisp sauvignon blanc (white) or a lighter red (Beaujolais, for one).

White wine is less acidic for those who are not normally wine drinkers. go with a Columbia Crest Chardonnay. About $10.

Try a Pinot Grigio. It's a light, crisp white wine that you'll be very happy with! You don't have to spend alot either. You can find a great bottle between $5 and $15.

Try a can of Bud or PBR. Wine is for wimps, Beer is a man's drink.. Try a drink of Sam Adams or a Belgian style ale with the fish.

I'd check with your date to see what she likes. Personally, I'd prefer a beer with fish.
