If your dandruff is light or mild, there are several anti-dandruff shampoos available at your local store. If your dandruff persists or is unusually heavy, you can visit a dermatologist so that the exact cause of the dandruff can be pinpointed and an appropriate medicine can be perscribed (the causes of dandruff vary strongly from allergies to bacteria).

I am a cosmetologist. There are 2 types of dandruff. One is a dry type; the other a waxy type. Both are contagious so make sure you are cleaning your brushes and combs properly so your not promoting the bacteria on your scalp. If you tend to have naturally dry scalp try using a milder shampoo.... I would stay away from cheap products such as suave etc. Try using shampoo one-paul mitchell it is a gentle cleansing shampoo. T-gel is truly medicated for dandruff or you can ask a physican for medicated shampoo. If it is untreaded in extreme cases it can lead to baldness.

Wash your hair, put some original Listerine in a spray bottle (I am not joking) and spray directly on the scalp.
Rub your scalp with your fingertips and let it sit for 10 minutes then rinse.
FYI- Dandruff is caused by a fungus, which Listerine kills.
I swear by this!

My boyfriend has dandruff and uses Head and Shoulders - it even comes in more scents now. And he also uses something called T-Gel by Neutragena, I believe. You put it on your scalp and let it sit for a while then wash your hair as regularly, as far as I know. He swears by it.

I use Head & Shoulders 3 times a week. It works like a charm for me!
You might be seeing shampoo flakes which happens if you don't wash all your shampoo out of your hair.

Just cut all of your hair. Voila!
Seriously, just use mild water when showering. Hot water dries the hair folicules.
Use mild water. Voila.
