I don't think any of them are committed to helping the poor. If they were, there would not be as many poor people out there as there is now.
See, I tend to think most religious people are thinking with their egos, not their hearts. It shows up in the lists of donors, or the big $$$ in the plate on Sunday that every one can see. Very seldom is it done with no name or in private.
True givers are never known, but their work is clearly visible.

Christians would help whomever we could under any circumstances. That being said, helping someone physically is a good thing, but we also try to help their souls. The only thing we "get" out of it is a Brother or Sister in Christ, which is a great thing.
And why would you want to take away anyone's First Amendment rights?

As a christian, people should help people. Why do people think it is a bad thing that Christians offer help to the needy and while they are helping, they offer to tell them about the love of Christ. They are free to accept the gifts of food shelter etc. They can take the gift to use as they need. They can also take the knowledge to accept or not.

Oh no it is all about control.
The religious love to feel as if they have power over others.
They love to hold that food over the head of the starving person and say, "Come on profess Jesus and I'll give you this food. If you don't I'll stand here and watch you starve!"
You know showing the love of Jesus!!

They help the poor, stop fault finding. What do you do to help the poor? What exactly are they getting in return?

nothing as powerful as a righteous man/woman.... yet, it seems so much more honorable to do the right thing because it is the right thing, and not for the reward of eternal paradise...
