My dog was paralytic and used to cry I don’t know what happened him and was living a miserable life, I was not able to see him like this I went for mercy killing, I cant forget this even today after 3 years, my younger brother was not allowing me to do this he was crying, my father till today don’t know how our dog died.
Did I take the right decision or I was not ready to face the truth and wanted to cut down my sorrows, please tell me the truth.

Mercy killing really is showing that you're merciful. It's perfectly alright to euthanize a dog if it's suffering. Some people spend lots of money trying to preserve the dog's life, but a preserved life isn't going to necessarily be a good life. If you see that your dog has lost its quality of living because of old age, sickness, or extreme pain, then putting them to sleep might be the right thing to do.

Don't beat yourself up over it. If the dog's life was that miserable, you were only doing him a favor by putting him out of his misery.

Maybe the dog can still make it. Call a vet and tell the vet to come to your house. If you try to move the dog yourself, you may be doing more damage. In case you have called the vet, ask what you can do. If the vet tells you to move the dog, find someone to help you move it (if it's big). And dude, when a dog is in pain and is in a blood pool, it's not always an assumption that the dog will die soon. it may have a chance to live, but in the dog's case, it will be limbless. (My dog's a tripod - she has three legs. Her hind leg got cut off by the vet after an accident. But she lived.)

It's only the right thing if you had taken him to the vet and in the vet's opinion he was suffering then yes it was as long as the VET was the one to do it, if you did it on your own however it could easily constitute animal cruelty. Only you know exactly how the dog died since you didn't tell us how he met his end. Only you know (after I have told you what the law considers right and wrong) whether you did the right thing; and why are you NOW after 3 yrs. are you asking if you were right or not. Also if you have been wondering after 3 yrs. then you know in your heart of hearts that you were wrong because you apparently haven't been able to live with yourself because of this.

Good luck

You did the right thing and the guilt is hitting you because no one else knows about it. It may be time to let the family know what happened so you can get it off your chest. Beware that they may be even more upset about it. If you choose not to tell them please come to peace with this as dogs can't tell you how much pain they are in like people can. That is why mercy killing is so hugely debated in our Society. I'm not for it among the human population myself.

Personally I think you could have taken your dog to a shelter or vets. However, I know you probably loved your dog and only wanted the best for it.
Again - a pain free death at the vets would have been best.
But you cannot change the past only look at the present and ensure in the future you at least consider the above.
All the best.

Your dog was suffering yes I agree. How ever you should have left it up to a professional. Your vet is the only one qualified to euthanize your pet.
How would you feel if you found out that your dog's death was very painful for him.

Seriously, if your dog was in pain you should have brought him to the VET. Are you really that stupid..you KILLED YOUR DOG??!?!?! HE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF GOING TO THE VET THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GIVE HIM A SHOT AND HE COULD HAVE DYED PEACEFULLY. WHAT A SICK, MEAN PERSON YOU ARE. Dogs are living creatures, yes maybe it was her time to go, but even if taking it to the vet cost money, it would have been less painfull than to do it yourself. If I knew someone like you in real life, I would seriously punch them in the face.

It depends. To me it sounds as though you did the right thing. You ended the dogs suffering.

My question to you: Did you do this humanely with a vets approval? The fact that your father didn't know about it worries me a little.

I am sorry you had to do this but it is for the best otherwise the humane society would have been all over you and made you then charged you & taken you to court
