Okay.. The hubby is most likely going to do his long remote while I finish up school. We will have our choice of a follow on base. What is your favorite AFB you have been stationed at and why? Thank you in advance!

I would like to stay in the states. My husband would love nothing more than to go back to Elmendorf but I really don't feel the same.

We actually thought about Nellis a lot. I like it because I could get my masters at UNLV. However, we have heard its a great place to visit but not to live.

AMMO...... Hill AFB has a big ammo dump. If your husband has a PRP rating and can work with nukes, Nellis would be a nice base.
Besides all the Las Vegas stuff, you have Lake Mead nearby and the wonderful mountains and ski resorts of Utah close enough for a weekend trip. I think Nellis was my best assignment out of seven assignments.

If you like Nellis but don't want to live there------
definately try Luke AFB!
was stationed there for about 1 year in the 80's
and it's not a long drive to Vegas

I was stationed at Ramstein AB, Kaiserslautern, Germany. I loved it! Unfortunatly, it is the largest concentration of Americans outside of the US. But you can still immerse yourself in the culture, and you dont need to feel homesick with all of the americans and ammenities. They have wonderful commissaries (one of ramstein and one of Vogelweh, which is about 6 miles away), BX/PXs, Power Zones, Garden Centers and the BEST outdoor recreation programs. Since there are so many military in the area, it is really easy to go to school on any of the military bases (army or AF).

That is the only place i have been that has Ammo.

Misawa AB in Misawa Japan become my absolute in demand. Misawa is a extra rural putting..about 8 hours force from Tokyo..notwithstanding the human beings and the bottom are tremendous. We lived there for 7 years and can want to like to bypass decrease back. contained in the states, Andrews is exceptionally strong. important metropolitin area so a lot to do. close to to NYC, skiiing and the shore. the in user-friendly words component i might want to say is that residing contained in the area at present off base isn't some thing i might want to recommend..the faculty systemsn in that district are in a downward spiral and most of the human beings residing on base evaluate inner most college or homeschooling. We moved into yet another county and at the same time as my husband has to go back and forth 50-60 minutes one way (no longer that unusual for DC i'd upload) we are residing in a strong college district and delightful, culturally diverse community.

My uncle was stationed at Luke AFB in Glendale, AZ and they loved the area so much that he and my aunt ended up staying there when he retired several years ago. He also spent a few years at Nellis and said he much prefered Luke.

You might want to think about Eglin AFB, on the Fla panhandle.

It's one of the nicest areas you will find in the US, but no nearby Universities.

Or, Macdill AFB in Tampa, Fl , there are several Universities nearby.

Seymour Johnson, Goldsboro, NC - I have never been in the military but I have been to this AF base many times. It is a beautiful town and not that far from the coast of NC (maybe an hours drive.)

Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas Nevada.....This way your family can come and see you for cheap. Plus if you live off base, the BAQ is outstanding.

I was born at Fairchild and moved to Grand Forks. Grand Forks sucked. I settled at Carswell, but it's defunct now. Nice area though.
