What point could eternal punishment have?

Punishment is not always a teaching tool. Punishment is also retribution. Justice.

You are looking at punishment through a rehabilitation model, which is not what Hell is about.

Hell is about living with the choices you have made.

You are right.

There are two hells. One for the devil and his followers which is what you consider eternal and there is no getting out of it for them. The other hell is a temporary state between death and resurrection that the ungodly will suffer and will have to be punished for their own sins since they did not accept Christ's atonement. Eventually these will be redeemed and go to some kingdom of glory, although they will never receive the fullness that those who were good/righteous will receive. Eternal is God's name therefore Eternal punishment is God's punishment.

What's the point? What's the point of having a law if there is no punishment or reward? It would be meaningless.

Could you change the channel for yourself?
There are so many other things to think about in this magical, mystical universe ...
Have you no pity for yourself?

Get away from negativity ... it does not matter what the source is .....if it makes you unhappy... I mean, do not punish YOURSELF by thinking about such things.... some people obviously have done some others more harm by spreading "Tidings of Great Misery" ... there is no reason for you to believe any of it ... just take it easy, have a good day, and concentrate upon your very self and things will look better ... not just to you, but to us too: it pulls us all down when someone is really unhappy ...

Eternity apart from God is not simply a punishment but an eventuality. The fact is that sin is death. It is the reason Christ came to pay that penalty of death for all who will accept it.Those who accept his atonement are than joined with a righteous God those that do not are in effect making an eternal choice. God can not join himself to sin. God offered his flesh to pay the penalty but will not force anyone to accept it.

We throw men and women into prison not to teach them a lesson but to punish them for their crimes. If they learn a lesson, good, but that is not the role of the courts. the court acts on behalf of society.

likewise, god's kingdom is a kingdom of justice and righteousness. criminals rebelling against the eternal holiness of God are punished on behalf of the kingdom.

the only way of escape for the sinner is through the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus on his (our) behalf. If that sacrifice is rejected, there is no mercy or forgiveness.

god bless

Why do you think we have life imprisonment in our prisons?

Is it to punish?

Or is it to teach?

Does it teach others perhaps?

We put murderers there to keep them away from the rest of society.

You break God's law, his penalty has been shown. And we have all broken them.

Excellant point!

The gift of God is life. If one doesn't wish to accept that gift, they receive the opposite of life: DEATH! - John 3:16; Romans 6:23.

Eternal torture would go against the fact that one is freed of sin at death. - Romans 6:7.

In fact the Bible states states, at Psalm 37:38 - "But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off."

When negative things occur, they are to teach, yes ... therefore they are remedial, not punitive. There is no eternal punishment. That was "dreamed up" by the priestcraft for control of the masses.

To provoke fear. Why would an all knowing being create a place of endless torture, then create a bunch of humans (while knowing exactly who will go there). It's like some sick as$ reality show for his own saddistic pleasure. This one twisted story.

It's pretty obvious that this 'God' was created as a 'higher power' by the government of the time. Nothing spiritual there...

It is consistent with American society which is far more punative than comparable societies elsewhere. It is no co-incidence that the USA has a much larger percentage of hell and brimstone type Christians than in other countries.
