I have a young border collie, we had snow yesterday, and he is scared to death of it. He won't go out in to go to the bathroom. If you have had a similar problem in the past, I would appreciate some suggestions. Thank you

Just so you all know, I did go out in it with him, and tryed to play. I think he is neurotic!!! He threw himself right into an asthma attack. Its not like hes 2 or 3 pounds, and it would be easy to clean up any mess after him, he's a big pup, over 40 pounds and still growing. I have already carried him out into the snow, I talked gently to him. He stares at Me and sends himself into an asthma attack. Its ridiculous. I love him to death, but this is just plain neurotic.

I have a dog that does the same thing. its not really the snow its the coldness on their feet.. This is going to be strange but get him some booties for his feet.. you can also try picking him up and putting him on the snow for a short time keep extending the time as you do it.. hope it all works out fo you

I own an Akita and they were bred for the snow. He is still a puppy at nine months and has not yet seen snow, but I expect he will be okay with it. They say that Akita's love to play in the snow. My dog however does not like the heat.
Your dog hates the cold, mine hates the heat.
Funny Really

My jack russells are scared of rain and snow. I have to walk out in the bad weather with them just so that they will come out of the house. They have a huge fenced in back yard but will not go out in the rain or snow without me or my BF. Get ready for the weather and go out with them. Maybe having you there will make him more comfortable.

My bigger dog loved the snow, she used to run around in it all time.. it was her favorite time of year... you couldn't get her back in the house!

My little dogs hate it.. they very rarely go outside.. and I think it might be because its too cold on their paws. You could try shoveling the area where they go to the bathroom at, or if that doesn't work.. paper-train them during the winter months.

my doggy is a Jack Russell terier, its trained, but it hates ice! Dont know why, its weird.
for ur problem, u should take some snow in side with you, to the garage or some where cold. every time ur doggy touches snow, give her a treat, for today, just let her go to the bathroom in the garage.

Maybe he doesn't know what it is or had a bad experience. I think that by simply bringing him closer to the door(treats), then sneaking him outside, he might realize it is harmless. Take him on a ride with you and take a "while" to find your keys. See how he reacts to it! Everyone (dogs, too) have fears. My dog had a fear of thunder. Good luck!!

Stay outside with the dog and play ball or something he loves to do while in the snow. Toss him snow balls. Mine won't come in when it snows!

You have to bring him outside yourself, to play in it.

There are shoes for dogs if that is the problem.

My dogs love the snow and swim through it, although the new one didn't quite know what to make of it her first few attempts at going outside this winter. she loves it now,.

I have a Pomeranian. First time he saw snow he yelped and cried and kept trying to run away from it. Snowflake got on his coat and he started running away. NOW he loves the snow.
