if you get another dog and the two do not get along, you will have a lot of work on your hands. you will need to keep them apart all the time, and it might be stressful for your older dog. you could try introducing the older guy to the new pup, but make sure you know they will be able to live together before you commit to getting the new dog.

Has the dog been socialized very much? Usually dogs who have not been socialized with other animals and humans alike tend to be aggresive or just territorial around others. You could attempt to socialize the dog with other dogs. (i.e. a park, just a walk around the neighborhood, friends pets, etc)

If your current pet isnt happy with other animals I would reconsider getting another until you can get your current one adapted to the idea. Throwing two animals together, one being in an abnormal new enviroment and another who doesnt want another animal around is only going to cause more problems.

Im sure once you have tried to socialize the 'old dachshund' you will get the results you like. If you do get the new pup be sure to introduce them on an uncommon ground rather than in the older dogs territory.

It's a tough one. If you have an older dog that is not socialized well to other dogs, chances are bringing a new dog into the household is not going to work out. If your dog generally does not like any other dogs, it would probably be best to wait until your stubborn old dog is no longer with you. Sorry.

Make sure you still pay alot of attention to the old dog so he doesnt get jealous, after spending time growing with the chihuahua they will become good buds. i've delt with this many times i currently have 8 dogs lol so i know all about this!
