They definitely do. You can see how they move their paws like walking or running, sometimes making sounds like they're frightened, arguing or whatever. Sometimes when my cat had some nightmares and then she woke up, she would be soooooo happy to see me. Just like us, when you wake up after nightmare and think: oh gee, good it was dream.

I think they do. Sometimes I watch my cats in their sleep and while they usually lay quietly, sometimes they make noises and move around a lot. The legs move as if the cat were running, the tail is active and the ears twitch. Meowing. I think those mean kitty dreams. :) It's never been scientifically proven though, and I don't know much about cats and their brains and levels of consciousness.

In the higher invertebrates, 'deep sleep' occurs where all the nomal electrical activity of the brain associated with wakefulness actually occurs. However associated motor activity is normally inhibited by the secretion of a hormone- noradrenalin.
If this secretion itself is inhibited, the subject displays motor activity eg 'sleepwalking' although oblivious to normal stimuli which would affect them during the wakeful state.
In experiments carried out with cats, where this has been carried out by surgical excision, the animals have displayed all the characteristic behaviour of cats when awake.( stalking, fear, and agression). The conclusion would be that cats and many other higher vertebrates do experience 'dreaming'. In order to test the function of dreaming itself, I think you would have to disable the hippocampus where short term memories are organised during sleep..a v. dodgy procedure!

Cats easily dream. generally, mutually as they are sound asleep, you will see them twitching around slightly. it relatively is while they are dreaming. In maximum people, as quickly as we dream, the relationship between our wide awake innovations and our physique turns lots of how off. although, cats' do no longer turn off to an identical degree, so they nevertheless pass slightly while they think of approximately shifting of their targets. From my journey, they probable have comparable suggestions in the back of their targets as we do. lots of the time, standard satisfied targets, which for a cat might probabaly be chasing down prey or fiddling with their famous toy. yet i've got additionally had a cat have a nightmare in my lap the place they unexpectedly woke, and proceeded to kick me interior the crotch as they ran far flung from despite they have been dreaming approximately.

Of course! Why would humans dream and not cats? We are all mammals and almost identical. My little cat makes noises and suddenly kicks her legs out in her sleep often!

I think so. my cat sometimes wakes up and starts meowing like crazy until I get his attention so he knows I'm there and he's not alone. I think that's when he's had a nightmare, or damare for that matter since cats don't only sleep at night :-P

I believe that they do dream. I have 7 of them myself and just like dogs their little paws twitch, ears twitch, and I've even heard one of them mew in his sleep. So if dogs dream so can cats!
