Yes.
Many people believe Christians should not drink beer and would not be willing to listen to a christian who does.
Also, it could lead friends to drink, which can lead to their alcoholism, so even if it wouldn't make me an alcoholic I should refrain.
I believe it is a matter of choice---the Bible doesn't forbid a drink, just drunkenness. But if it would cause someone to stumble, it would be a sin to do it.

It's okay for Christians to drink, but drunkenness is another issue. As for causing someone else to stumble, anyone can do that. If you know someone has a drinking problem, it's only right to not drink around them. Why would a Christian, or anyone else for that matter, want to contribute to a problem?

There are many viewpoints on whether a christian should drink alcohol or not.
If a christian thinks in his or her heart and mind
that a person watching him drink alcohol
might possibly if not now, then eventually
stumble, then he (the drinker of alcohol)
should not drink.
There are many scriptures in the bible for
drinking alcohol, and many scriptures in the
bible against drinking alcohol.
I think Proverbs in an excellent book to check
out, on having a good attitude about alcohol.
For a person that is Buddhist, it is NOT
wholesome, healthy, and productive to drink
any kind of alcohol.
It is taught in Buddhism that there are SIX
results from drinking alcohol:
1) Decreasing Wealth.
2) Increasing Quarrels.
3) Danger of Diseases.
4) Gaining a bad/evil Reputation.
5) Indecent Exposure.
6) Ruining one's Intelligence.
Source of that buddhist scripture is
Digha Nikaya 31.
I agree with all six of those reasons, and also
the reason of not causing someone to stumble
as well.
My dad was no religion growing up, and as he
raised his 4 children. He did have a saying
which I am sure all have heard of before,
He always said "Do as I say, not as I do"
He told us kids not to drink alcohol or to take
drugs, but he did drink alcohol himself. His body
had a low tolerance toward alcohol. He did not
drink much alcohol daily, but he did eventually,
at the age of 64 die from liver damage.
I do not judge or condemn, nor look down upon
anyone who drinks alcohol in moderation, in
access, or one who does not drink at all, such
as myself.
We all must remember that we are all held
accountable for our Karma (our Actions), AND
we all WILL reap what we sow.
Many practice the drinking of alcohol in
Moderation, those that do not have scriptures,
or religious books that they follow, and they
are able to practice self-control, and do no
harm to others or to themselves. Good.
Sources: Self. These are my opinions, not a
Thus saith the Lord type thing.

If you have a friend who is a recovering alcoholic or even has a family who has a history of alcholism, drinking in their presence can be a stumbling block.
The difference between a Christian causing them to stumble verses a non-Christian, is Christians should be more aware of how their actions, as they pertain to how Christ instructed us, can cause those around them difficulties and hardships.
(As a disclaimer, i'm not saying a non-Christian may not be aware of this, or may not avoid drinking in front of someone, simply that as Christian to be called the "light of the world" should be much more aware).

I think a person's responsibility for their own actions trumps the ease with which someone else can be made to stumble. If we went around altering our behavior in a way that wouldn't interfere with anyone else's life, there wouldn't be a whole lot that we could do.
We couldn't eat without causing a person with an eating disorder from stumbling, we couldn't sleep without causing someone with a lack of motivation from stumbling, we couldn't have sex without causing someone with a sex addiction from stumbling and so on.
Just about every kind of behavior can cause a person harm if they overindulge in it, but I fail to see how that's our responsibility.

I agree with Daisy's answer. I would also add that if you drink in front of an alcoholic (which is idolatry in addition to being a sickness), you could cause your brother to stumble, because you are tempting him.
