I have my own cat, which is strictly indoor. But I've grown fond of a number of cats around our block that have a wide range of personalities and behaviors.
Two of them -- a long haired Maine Coon with an orange saddle and a mostly white Tuxedo cat -- have taken to beating each other up on a near daily basis. This mostly happens near my study in the early afternoon. I have no idea who the owners are and would really like to bring an end to this ongoing battle.
Any suggestions?

One cat (the Maine Coon) is already fixed -- and yet he seems to be the instigator. The other is a little more social, but I'm not sure of that cats gender or if its been fixed.
It's winter here in Michigan and I'm not incline to "hose" them down.
These ideas are helping. Thank you so far!

see if you can find the owners if not post a notice around the neighborhood giving everyone notice that you will be taking one of the cats and getting it fixed, and that it will be yours from then on

You can squirt them with a water bottle but it'll only break up the fight long enough for them to take off to a new location and start up again. I'd hazard a guess they're both toms and if so, they won't stop until one leaves or dies.

There are two feral toms where I live who have a battle royal every day out in my pasture. I'm about to trap them and have them both neutered, see if that helps a little.

The only way is to find the owners so they can keep the cats indoors. You can break up the fights when you see them, but that won't stop them when you aren't around.

Spray them with a hose when they start fighting and they will stop. maybe the neighbors are not aware that the cats are fighting or maybe they just don't know what to do either.

I don't think there really is a way to make them stop fighting. I mean, it's not like you can go up to them and ask them to settle their problems in a different way. They might be fighting over territory....guess you just have to wait it out..

One and only answer? Trap one and either keep it (away from your cat and make sure to get it FelV and FIV tested before you introduce with vaccines/fecal and NEUTERED!!!) or take it to your local humane society. It will never stop until one of them gets killed.
