you cant listen to everyone else all the time. If u wanna get the best speakers regardless of money then there are a plethora of companies that have very high powered competition grade speakers and subwoofer that will be loud and good. your best bet is to go to an audio specialties shop not best buy, walmart, or circuit city and see what they have. thats not to say that walmart and best buy dont have good brands, but an audio specialties shop will be able to answer most if not all of your questions.

I'll suggest JL audio, Audiobahn, and Memphis audio are all very good high quality brands to look into. to name a very small few.

You question is so general, that there can be over 10 different brands that could make it just as good as the other, depending of what application you are planning to do, and how "picky" your ears are for sound quality.
You could be happy with a set of Sony, Pioneer, alpine, or JBL to mention some, of maybe you want a higher end with more fidelity like Bose or Clarion.
Price will go from just $10 to over $10K.
I would recomend you to go to places like Best Buy, Circuit City and Radio Shack and test the speakers they have there. You will find a big different from brand to brand. The person that can really answer your question is yourself.
If you are looking for reliable and last longing as well, then choosing the most expensive of the one you like works (just make sure is a known brand name).
if this doesn't answer your question, it means you are picky, then you should ask about the specific application you have in mind.

for below 1k you'll get some very effective equipment. till you're operating VERY severe wattage, (and proper wiring) you want no longer hardship about hurting stuff lower than the hood. once you've 0 experience wiring up a stereo, get a professional to do it. starting up with a sparkling stereo doesn't be a foul idea, you don't need one which has rather some wattage, seeing because the way you're going to apply amplifiers. for a small vehicle, i'd use like 500 watts. it really is plenty loud. i'm runng four hundred watts to my the front, rear, and bandpass sub field, and it must be heard over my exhaust...it particularly is rather loud on my "80 4 Blazer

if you want to beat hard with lower sound quality i would go with Kicker soloX or MTX 9500 they both have good sound quality but less than the JL Audio w7 sub or the alpine type X which are both good subs also but it depends on what you are lookin for in a sub my prefrence is the MTX 9500 it hits hard and doesn`t distort at high volums and still sounds good to me. hope that helps
