All ready happened the cold war was world war 3
but about the current war it is at the moment to one side but who nos what the Islamic extremists will be able to do in the future it may become a world war

From what I've been reading, yes. There are people in this world who want it started, believe it or not. The question is whether they will be able to, but apparently they have sufficient clout to do so. They're plan is that three world wars will sufficiently sway the rest of the population (those who survive) to surrender their national sovereignty and accept one-world-rule. With these nuts at the top, of course.
Starting in the Middle East, of course.

Wonder who decides if its a world war vs just a war or a regional conflict or whatever. Seems like the US has enough people pissed at us to call it a WW.

Yes. We are in it.
The GWOT is WWIII and it is pivotial we win in Iraq to preserve Western values. If we lose this war, it will desolve from there. Radical Islam, enboldened, will spread like NAZISM is Europe and the conquest will ensue. We will have to fight WWII size fronts and battles, and many millions will die.
Thats why President Bush stragedy of fight them there is the ONLY option.
