Enter '1' in the row you want to mark as 1
Enter '2' in the row you want to mark as 2
Press Enter and then click the cell you've just typed '2' in
A small black box should appear in the bottom right corner
Hover over that with the mouse 'til te arrow turns to a White cross (like a medical cross symbol)
Click and hold the left mouse button and drag down to the 700th row
Excel will automatically go up from 1 in each of the cells

Yes, I'm going to assume (dangerous thing to do :-) that you are using M$ Excel. There are many ways to do this. Probably the simplest is to type the first 3 or 4 numbers in the list in seperate cells. Then select the last one one and drag the lower right corner to fill in the cells you want numbered. You can do this with dates too!

Type in, say 1, 2 & 3. Highlight the three cells and then pull the little handle on the bottom of the third cell and it will continue your numbers down the spreadsheet. Easy peasy (explanation might be poo, though)

In addition to the other methods of drag - if they doesn't work:
Put 1 in A1
in A2 put =A1+1 and enter. Then drag down to line 700.
You can either leave it - or highlight column A, right clik mouse and select 'copy'.
Then select right mouse again and select 'paste special, then - value'.
This will replace the calculation with the numbers.

Yes
Simply put in first two numbers in the column (underneath each other in seperate cells)
Then click and hold bottom right of the lower cell and drag the mouse. It will accelerate the numbers as high as you want to go.

type in the first few numbers you want to use, then hold the cursor on the bottom ride hand corner of the last cell you typed in, the cursor should change to a black cross, now hold the left button and drag down as far as you need to go.

Yes, but you do need to enter the first two, so that Excel can see what you want to do. Select both of them, and then drag the little square in the bottom right-hand corner down.
