Do you put a chair rail in a bedroom or are they reserved for formal living areas?

I think they're kool anywhere you want them. I just put them in my bathroom. It made a good divider for the wall paper I put up. I put blue/white stripe up to the level of the counter and ran a chair rail around the room to finish it off. came out great. Have fun with it.

You can put a chair rail in a bedroom and I think that would look very nice, especially with 2 complementary paints in the room (one on the top and one on the bottom). You could check out this site for ideas too http://homeimprovement.divinfo.com/

Yes, chair rails in bedrooms are great. Just mount the rails at 32-36 inch height and make sure to find the studs so the rails are secure. They're beautiful in bedrooms, in fact, I'm putting them in mine:)

not in a bedroom, use a wallpaper border if you want to break up the walls, it's not stupid when they call it a CHAIR rail, good luck

I agree, they'd look cool. You could even paint the wall above a different color, which is a very classy, chic look.
