You will find that there are specialty dog foods that use turkey. It will not hurt your dog. It is also a myth that pork is harmful to a dog, however it is true that dogs do not metabolize pork well. So they receive very little nutrition from it.

why can't a dog eat turkey? I would rather my god eat that than chicken. Turkey does cost alot more. I'm sure that some dogfoods will have turkey, like some have lamb, and others no meat at all. My dogs love turkey, and they are both very healthy. Just watch those bones.....

The no turkey myth I suspect started from people giving their dog ALL the grease that cooked on a 20 lb turkey & that much fat can make a dog very ill. Chickens don't cook off 20 lb of fat- so few dogs get sick from cleaning chicken pan. Black & white thinking takes over 20 lb of turkey in bad, therefore any about is bad.

I don't know where you heard not to feed a dog turkey.. All three of my dogs get a little turkey for thanksgiving. IT will not hurt them and can be very healthy if given right. They do have it in dog food. Check your wet foods for dogs at any local grocery store.

Dogs can eat turkey, it's just that it's more expensive to produce so the dog food companies use chicken, which is cheap and plentiful. I give my Great Pyr and Border Collie raw turkey necks and legs as treats from time to time and they just gobble them up. Just be sure to remove any bones if it's been cooked, as cooked bones are brittle and can splinter. Raw ones are soft and chewable so they're ok. I learned to take off the skin after my Border Collie puked it back up, ick.

I have never heard this at all. Turkey won't make a dog sick. Perhaps it isn't in many dog foods because it is more expensive? I have a feeling there are dog foods out there that contain turkey.

I have never heard this......and i have seen turkey based animal food in the stores..maybe it's where you are shopping ?
I have been told you shouldn't feed dogs or cats cooked chicken or turkey bones because cooking deteriorates the bones and they splinter apart in their throat get caught or lodged and kill them.
My vet said they should be raw like nature intended them and they don't splinter, they are soft enough that they bend

its kinda weird...my dog is a pom and he can't have chicken..but he can have turkey. we always cut up some cold turkey and mix it with his food....when we gave him chicken ( only done it a couple times) fresh or in dog food. thats all he did was puke, so we figure he is allergic to chicken. but he can eat turkey.
