This is my budgie's 2nd clutch; yesterday (or the night before) the hen laid her 1st egg; it was there earlier today, I saw it... but now it's completely gone from the nest box! There's no sign of it anywhere in the box, the cage, or the area around it; could one of them eaten it? She had a clutch before and everything worked out fine, so this is not normal behavior for her... and there's no mess anywhere either, so how can they eat it without me seeing something, some mess or bit of shell or something?

no, no one else was in the house all day (from when I saw the egg, to when I realized it was gone from the box). that's the only reason why I considered the fact that maybe the hen might of eaten it... otherwise, I would have thought maybe one of the kids messed with it, took it out or something.

my mom's keet did the same thing to a few of her eggs a year ago; i'm wondering if maybe this is a sign of calcium deficiency; you may want to recheck the vitamins and mineral intake as you would not want your hen to get egg binding like my mom's keet did last week; ughh that was a nightmare. good luck and i hope everything is okay!

particular the two can consume a demanding boiled egg. The birds can cope with the shell nonetheless on the egg for the further calcium, i wouldn't likely advise it for the canine however. however the egg would be a great source of protein for the two.
