Shouldn't we be more worried about that?

To those of you who said we shouldn't worry about China being a world power- then what was the cold war all about? Why were we so worried when the USSR was a communist world power?

And do what?

The business community interacts with China and realizes it is not only a huge producer but also a huge consumer base.

Would China becoming a world powere really be such a bad thing?

The powers that be haven't worked out all that well as kingpins have they?

Perhaps we should take China's lead and close our doors, look after our own and develop both our nation's people and resources, and maybe just stop worrying about the rest of the world until we get our house back in order.

Why should China's becoming a world power worry anybody ? If China does not try to expand and grab up other people's land, they'll be good neighbors.
We're a world power, but other countries are not worried that we're going to gobble them up . In fact, we gave Cuba its independence, same with the Philippines. Puerto Rico will be given independence if they want it.
Being strong does not mean being greedy. Of course, the one problem with China is their refusal to give independence to Tiawan. That's an indication of greed. Tiawan certainly is capable of self government. They've been practicing it for a long time- - - very successfully.

China is a world power already-- which explains why we can't do anything without starting a cold war. Allow me to explain-- America buys many of her products from China. If we blew them into nuclear grit, we would not be able to get these things. Likewise, if China wiped us off the face of the earth, no one would be there to buy those products. Therefore, for now, we want to keep on good terms with China.

We're going to allow, and actually welcome, China into becoming a world player. China in and of itself is not our direct enemy, plays a big part in our national economy, and a small role in our global security. I'll admit however that some of us DEFINATELY do not want to see how our Chinese products / imports are made. We still have a few concerns about how they run their shops but...

China is actually interested in the strength of our economy, trying to help us disarm nuclear weapons, and are hosting plenty of our talented citizens, just as we host plenty of very productive Chinese employees in our country, without fear.

However I've heard of the news story of the Chinese being able to knock down a satellite. We have had the ability to do that for 20 years. We're a little pissed off, but I think our relations are starting to warm up, personally.

Oh by the way, I'm a half white-Puerto Rican! Yay

China has increased its military budget by more than THIRTY PERCENT in the last five years.

China is overtaking the USA as the industrial polluters of the globe.

China is developing a taste for cars and the consumption of oil to support their industrial habit.

Within our lifetime, you will see China make a grab for America's resources. Bet on it.

You think that's unrealistic? Just try to imagine how long it is going to take America to recover from the untold ripple effect of this STUPID Iraq entanglement.

China has already embraced the western commerce and trade philosophy. As for its military designs, no, I don't think we nor the rest of the "free-world" has to worry about communism for now.

i think the reality is that ultimately from a military standpoint ... iraq and the middle east is about war with China and their future status as a superpower .. american thinkers on capitol hill have decided that america should put itself in control of the most strategic location on earth while we are on top and the sole world superpower... people that think china is our friend are mistaken imo ... they have been feverishly stealing technology and military secrets and rapidly modernizing their military and nuclear capability ... not to mention direct threats to retaliate with nuclear weapons if the US interferes with them militarily in any way ... to understand the US position in iraq one needs look no further than the defense dept memo from the PNAC "rebuilding americas defenses" ... its being followed to the letter and most of the neocons that wrote it are in the current administration ...

Yes I agree that China is the biggest threat. I believe that Iraq and other skirmishes can make us battle ready for the coming conflict with China.

"Messing around"?

Is THAT what those soldiers are doing in Iraq?

MESSING AROUND?

Fascinating how the same people who scream about our presence in Iraq are the same people who believe we should invade China, North Korea, Iran, etc.

Thinking is not their forte.
