Athlete's foot is a fungus infection. It grows well in moist environments (such as a sweaty foot). It causes cracks usually between your toes and can be rather painful. You can get some creams and powders from the pharmacy to help, and it's really important to keep your feet really dry and wash your socks really well so it doesn't come back when you get rid of it.

Yes it is a fungus, keep your socks clean as well as sneakers. Try powder in your shoes. To treat it you can use Lamisil, Tinactin just to name a few. THe fungus causes cracks but also small blister like bumps and is VERY VERY itchy.

in addition the other advice:
never wear the same pair of shoes 2 days in a row.
clean your feet with atomidine every other day.
on the off days use neem oil like lotion and work it in everywhere.

Then you won't have the fungus anymore.
