most of the time it is injury to the nail. This can be caused by everyday wear and tear especially if you use your hands for rough work. If you use nails to pry things like soda pop-tops, if you bite your nails, etc.

If you are not guilty of any of these and you virtually don't use your hands at all you might look at a zinc deficiency.

Before you start taking ANY mineral supplement (especially potassium like another poster suggested) check with your physician because too much can be very toxic.
The amount that is found in most multiple vitamin supplements is generally OK.

I cringe when I see people with no medical background prescribing for themselves or others potassium. Too much can cause very serious permanent heart damage and even death.

Never ever take mega doses of any mineral supplement without being directly monitored by a physician.

It is unlikely this is a zinc deficiency but if you suspect it is see your doctor first. Zinc can have some nasty permanent side effects if taken unnecessarily. So can other minerals.

It looks like several of the answers are correct. I've read up on this one and asked a doctor or two also. There is no one answer to this question. Experts say the white marks on nails can be from any number of things including a calcium deficiency, exema, or "bruising" of the nails.

will be purely the way you're, will be calcium deficiency-purely because you drink milk in college does no longer propose you get adequate, attempt some eco-friendly greens like broccoli and Asparagus, as well as cantaloupe. you may have hit your nail very not person-friendly, it will be fungus. someone could have any way of nutritional deficiencies inspite of eating regimen. milk isn't the purely or maybe perfect thanks to have calcium in you eating regimen.
