Hindus especially like to carve their own gods out of wood and stone.

HAB 2:19 Woe to him who says to wood, `Come to life!'
Or to lifeless stone, `Wake up!'
Can it give guidance?
It is covered with gold and silver;
there is no breath in it.

What do you think????

Well, I would feel pretty darn silly worshipping a god that came from a factory.

Knock Knock - Whose there - UPS - YES!!! MY GOD HAS COME!

Sorry, I couldnt help myself!

There have been a number of fairly radical different Gods created lately. Look to the Cthulhu Mythos (particularly that of Lovecraft and Campbell--avoiding Derleth's pseudo-Christian Mythos); also see The Church of the Subgenius, and the Discordians. While they are all "fictional," each offer semi-unique takes on the nature of religion and the Universe. I myself am something of a Discordian Christian...

It's not about the idol itself, it's the essence of God that's present within, which is supposed to enter the idol when it is consecrated. That's one major misconception about Hinduism.

Gods are being created all the time, I'd say, not like it really matters. Whatever helps people to become more spiritual is fine by me.

The basic reason for religion is to explain reality, but there can only be one reality. Therefore, at most one religion can be correct. If I accept that your religion is correct, then mine must be wrong. This is unacceptable to the devout, and a major reason for conflicts like those we see today.

Religion is a significant source of evil.

Well, those three old bloodthirsty monotheistic desert religions have pretty much trashed the planet, so I'm hoping someone comes up with some news ones pretty quick.

Same old hash. We would need a major catastrophe that wiped out most of mankind to get any new ones.

I don't think any new gods have come around since the Dark Ages.

Whatever dominates and controls you and whatever you think about and participate in the most is actually your god or idol. Because they think about themselves more than anything else, most people's true god or idol is self-me, myself and I.
