I think that if it has in fact changed, it is because of people like SOME of the ones on here that debate about taking someone back after cheating. I think that if you have to ask people that you don't even know whether or not to take someone back, then you shouldn't be in a relationship with that person. I also think that sometimes women get accused by a jealous husband/bf about cheating and that after awhile when you get tired of proclaiming your innocence all of the time, you finally just do it so that they have something to actually be worried about. I am not sure why exactly it has changed but these are some of my ideas......hope it helps!

Actually, if you look this up with the ppl who do the actual research you'll find that the real reason is b/c there are more women out in the work force then ever before. They actually have the opertunity to cheat. This is the answer (to why the number of women cheating inflated so...but it's more like 47% of married women and married men 71% last I looked...) found in the professional books you can buy or read at the library. Find a book from a relationship specialist. Or watch The History of Relationships (sex) on the History channel. Where in fact, BOTH genders were free to meander as they pleased once "the seed" of their husbands were inplanted (pregnant, duh) as to not "steal" the husbands heir. (Punishable by death!) And in Rome it was even worse! There were NO morals and anyone could swap partners any time and women were allowed to divorce as well as the men. Divorce rates were higher than birth rates so the king declared it a LAW to stay married to ONE person and if anyone found cheating would be put to death! But women got around that by ONLY cheating AFTER their husbands impregnated them. The show was awsome to watch and very informative! Totally enjoyed the History of Sex and Relationships. Hope you all can catch it on the History channel. I saw it only a few weeks ago. Probably will repeat...good luck.

Society continues to change. Women were not always viewed upon as equals. In some parts of the world, they are still considered property.
Ultimately, men and women aren't quite that different. Once women were given the same opportunities (education, the right to vote, career, etc) they didn't consider themselves lucky to be married.
There was a time where a woman would be ridiculed for cheating on her husband. Today, it isn't exactly a scandal;)

I think they're just getting caught more. I think it used to be a lot easier for a woman to get away with it than a man. Nowadays, it's just as easy for either to get away with it.
Think about it: in the 50's, a man went to work at 6:00am, was gone all day, and didn't get home until 6:00pm. The woman could depend on it, like clock work. If he didn't, it was her duty to get mad at him over it. So if the milk man was making rounds, and she needed to invite him in to get the empty bottles and offered him "tea" while he was there... well, who was to know if it was tea and crackers or something else? And he would build in enough time into his schedule to account for three or four stops like this. No one would question him because he is a "respectable member of the community..." etc etc and if he did get caught with one, he probably had three or four others that didn't get caught.
Nowadays, though, everyone is at work. Despite the trashy romance novels and Penthouse letters, I find it hard to believe that the majority of cheating goes on durring office hours. My job performance is gradded on my effecincy. If I was in the broom closet with my girlfriend when I was supposed to be working, someone would notice and I'd get fired. Simple as that. Maybe lunch breaks, but really, I've only got an hour and then I've got to get back on the phones. If three quarters of that is taken up with a quickie, I'd starve to death! Different jobs are different, and I'm sure that not all the Penthouse letters that describe these things are lies, but really, it's the exception, not the rule. I think the vast majority of cheating today goes on after office hours. That goes for both men and women.
So now women that cheat have to go through the same Hell that men who cheated before did: they have to get time off work and lie to their husband that they're actually scheduled to work, then explain how they only have half as much time off as the rest of their co-workers. Or they have to get him to look the other way while they go hang out with a "friend." Really, cheating would be a lot of work, if you ask me! Dating was hard enough when I was single and could be open and honest with everyone about my commings and goings. Now that I'm married... it would be Hell!
And yet, there are those who go through the Hell to do it. Wonder of wonders. It's no wonder so many eventually crack and break down and get caught. The wonder is really that so many get away with it, if you ask me.

Haven't done any research other than talking... I would believe that it's always been around 50/50... and the women are just now coming out with it.

Women are selfish. No wait, mankind is selfish. We've thrown morals and values right out the window and live like beasts who are always hungry. Wait until you see what happens to that generation of kids coming out of these broken homes. We're so in for it!

If your doing it behind your partner back its bad. If you and your partner has a open relationship its OK. A good rule to follow is if you would not want your partner to do it to you then you should not do it. If your doing it behind your partner back then you think its wrong so it is. If you did not believe it was wrong and would not hurt your partner you would be open about it. This goes for if your male or female

Because women are getting bolder. We use to sit around and take it, being treated unkind, or being cheated on, but now if a man messes up it seems as if the woman will just go out and do her own thing.
