I have never owned a dog who had puppies, so I have no idea what to tell her except to get her spayed.

Its a chihuahua, it was given to her for free and she didn't really want it. Now it had puppies, and she didn't know it was pregnant. 1 puppy was big and died, then the 2nd lived and looks normal, (she had these two around 4am) then around 2:30pm she had another really skinny one and it died.

Now the momma is running insanely around her house whineing consantly, won't go outside and only stops to feed her remaining pup every once in a while.

What is going on? Is she going to reject her pup? Does she need to see the vet? There is no history on the dog at all, the owner who gave her up won't give any details on her.

The dog came with another male, same situation and we don't know if they're related or not, and if he's the sire or not.

The mama may be looking for her dead puppies. She knows they were born and cannot find them, and it's freaking her out.

To help her calm down, confine mama to a crate with her living pup in a QUIET room where there are no other pets or people. She needs time to decompress, calm herself, and bond with her living pup.

Make sure the dogs are warm; the pup cannot "shiver" when it's this young and cold will kill it faster than anything. If necessary, crank the heat up to 72 degrees in the room.

Don't force the mom to go outside if she doesn't to want at this stage. Wait a few days until she's more calm. It means more short-term clean up for you, but will be easier on the mama.

Make sure she has plenty of water available, and tempt her to eat by offering her some boiled rice and hamburger. (It tastes good and will fill her up without upsetting her already upset tummy.)

Watch for things like excessive bleeding (bright red blood) or an expulsion of blackish-green foul smelling goo coming from the mom's vaginal area. These are signs of hemmorhage and/ or that a pup has died inside of her. Also, check her temperature (using a rectal thermometer); anything over 102 is NOT good.

If you see either of these, get her and pup to a vet IMMEDIATELY.

Yes, the dog should at least have a check up. It sounds like the dog is experiencing the loss of the pup. Wouldn't you be full of remorse as well?

this is not normal behavior and yes, she should see a vet....there may be another puppy(possibly dead) that she can't have.
