This is one of those difficult questions.
I cannot prove God doesn't exist any more than I can prove he does exist, and i know that there are many strange things in this world of ours that we know about but cannot explain.
Many people do not believe in miracles and yet in 1978 I had an accident that put me into a deep coma! The medical specialists wanted to turn off my life support because I was in a permanently vegetative state which means I had no measurable brain activity or ability to sustain life unaided.
Obviously by some miracle I survived and it is a miracle in itself that from a vegetative coma I came out of the coma in a mere five days. Despite having total amnesia at the time and no recordable brain activity how is it possible that I nevertheless had when I came out of coma memories of a highly moving spiritual nature of things that happened to me while in coma that would not be believed here!
Of course I must qualify that I had severe brain damage at the time and was at the time totally paralysed so I cannot be taken as a reliable expert witness, but what I am saying is do not be too quick to castigate somebody just because you have no proof of what they say about spiritual, or alien, or whatever experience!
I do not pretend to be any kind of a Christian however Hebrews 13 says "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers for by so doing thou may havet in unawareness entertained Angels!

That's easy: check what he says with Scripture. God doesn't contradict Himself. If it is some "new" revelation, a little research into the history of religions reveals that it isn't new but something tried out some centuries ago. Nothing is new, least of all the "new age."
Would I believe it was insanity? Heck no. I'd believe he was one of the more sane sinners on this planet, using a religion to make money. While the ones doing this go to a very hot hell, while here they do turn a nice profit. That's not insanity, that's taking advantage of the always-gullible humans.

God talks to us every day via mystical happenings and synchronicity. People just do not pay attention.
If I live to be as old as Methusalah (969) years; I will never forget a pipe ceremony I attended in Tennessee with Mr. and Mrs. Rogers in Novemberq1998. I had brought my catlinite (pipestone) pipe to show it to Mr. Rogers, and he suggested that we have a pipe ceremony before the other guests arived.
The wind was blowing amd cold. As soom as Mr. Rogers lit the white sage to smudge us; the wind stopped blowing. After we were smudged; he lit the pipe and went around the circle offering tobacco to the 6 directions (E, S, W, N, above and below) Every single time; Mr. Rogers offered tobacco to one of the six directions; here would cone a HUGE gust of wind that would bend the trees so the sun could shine into the circle where the pipe ceremony was being held.
When using the pipe; I have had wild animals come unnaturally close to where I was praying.
Here are some examples.
Doves land no more than 5 - 7 feet away from me and walk around as if I were not there.
A wild racoon walked past where I was standing no more than 3 feet away. It was so close I could kicked it.
A hummingbird hovered about 6 inches in front of my chest.
We are all talked to bt the Creator and re receive guidance every day. Unfortunately; most people never pay attention to the messages.

I'd only really worry about questioning it if they said God told them I had to do something. God's not going to give me a commandment through someone else that He wouldn't confirm to me personally in my own prayers.
Like I've heard stories where guys have gone up to girls and said "God let me know I'm supposed to marry you." Well, the girl would be just as entitled to that personal revelation too, if it were true.
Anyway, if they just said God gave them some personal daily guidance, then I wouldn't even bother thinking twice about it.

The only people I've ever known who claimed to have heard God speaking to them were under the influence of mind altering substances when they heard it. So I'd actual lean toward an altered state of consciousness.

Hyperacusis is when a person becomes extremely sensitive to everyday sounds... it is as though sounds are "stuck on high". Tinnitus is often thought of as "ringing, buzzing, chirping, crickets, etc. in the ears".
The following links provide more in depth explanations of these disorders.
http://www.umm.edu/tinnitus/hyper.html
http://www.umm.edu/tinnitus/tinnitus.html
Hyperacusis has certainly been well documented in autism:
http://hubel.sfasu.edu/courseinfo/SL98/hyp1.html
http://www.vaccinationnews.com/DailyNews/July2001/AutismUniqueMercPoison.htm
I suspect those who suffer greatly from hyperacusis may be those we are now diagnosing as having "schizophrenia"... what I now very much see as just an "older autism" or "younger Alzheimer's". Given the many parallels across these disorders - Autism-Schizophrenia-Alzheimer's and their very common history ... a history linking all three disorders with "age of onset" appearing to be the primary "classification criterion", there can, in my opinion, simply be no denying that this is the same disorder over the life spectrum.
So, before you "trust blindly" and believe your loved one is "crazy" because s/he is "hearing voices

I would not believe it but I wouldn't think that person was insane. The mind is powerful and if you really WANT to believe something, chances are you'll convince yourself it's true. Like believers.
