Doctors know how to deal with this phobia better than anyone else, just let them know you are a phobic and they will probably hide the needles, distract you, and you should just trust that they will not expose you to any unecessary stress.

I understand.. I get light headed and everything else... and their environment is sooo scary its hard not to freak out!
I have to look, because im like that i hate being that way but i have to look at the stupid thing.. I dont watch them put it in, but its hard not to think of anything.. I would take a book, a phone to text message someone or something like that while u wait.. or a fun friend... When they go to do it i just start talking a ton about my life story.. I had to get my blood drawn a couple weeks ago and heck i new the ladys life story including her daughter is in rehab and everything... blood work can take a few min, but a shot generally only takes a few seconds... Ask the pharmacist for numbing cream and ask the nurse where the shot will be administered and apply the cream... well good luck!

If you aren't afraid of the pain, then what else about it is there to fear? I get an allergy shot once a week. There is very little pain when getting a shot these days. There is so many more things to
fear than a small piece of metal! We all have to do a lot of things in life that we don't want to do, so we just do it. I don't allow myself to be defeated by things. I just do what I have to do and go
on. You can do what you want to and what you have to.

One of my daughters has PTSD, and has a horrible fear of needles.
It took eight people holding her down to do a blood test, and it was very traumatic for all of us!
Her pediatrician gave her hydrocodone the next time...she took it 1/2 hour before her test, and she was VERY relaxed. They also prescribed a numbing cream for her arm, so that she didn't feel the needle go in.
You'd need someone to drive you to your appointment, but you'd feel very relaxed, and after a positive experience, my daughter was able to get a shot the next time, and not need the drugs!
Good luck...you can DO it!!

Well, all I can tell you is that when I got my tooth pulled, I was extremely scared of the needle. Seeing the metal slowly get closer to you mouth is pretty nerve-wracking. HOWEVER, I can also say that you hardly feel anything. At first it seems horrible, but soon enough the dentist says "Okay, that's it" and you'll be surprised at how little you felt. Also, some friendly advice: Try not to miss the spit bowl when your mouth is numb. :)

Don't look at the needle. I am a phlebotomist and many of my patients tell me that they did not even feel the needle. Technology has it so the needle is cut on such a slant and with such precision, that it is silly to be afraid of the needle.

Plus, tell yourself that it is not going to last all day...that helps me when the DENTIST is coming at me with a needle.

Dont look. However being a diabetic I too had a fear but having to inject an orange to get used to injecting I learnt not to take any notice of the sharp end.

This may sound stupid but, Just don't look at it. I felt the same way, and I just don't look at the needle. Before you know it they are done with the shot and have disposed of the needle.

Good Luck

Just don't look at it when the doc/nurse brings it in. That's what I do.
