Election is a doctrine in which God "elects," or chooses, the individuals who will enter heaven according to His divine will.
John 15:16 - "You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask in my name."
Galatians 1:15,16 - Paul is talking and sayd... "But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:"
(He was separated from birth for this purpose)
Acts 13:48 - "And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed." They were ordained to eternal life.
Matthew 22:14 - "For many are invited, but few are chosen."
Ephesians 1:4 - "For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love"
Romans 9: 18-23 "Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden. One of you will say to me: "Then why does God still blame us? For who resists his will?" But who are you, O man, to talk back to God? "Shall what is formed say to him who formed it, 'Why did you make me like this?' " Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for noble purposes and some for common use? What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction? What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory"

There are various views, each supported, at least in part, by the Bible. As you might know, the election principle is often contended/compared with predestination - do we choose whether we want to follow God or did God choose those that would follow Him.
This page is biased toward a particular view (for better or for worse), but it does provide some references to related scripture - so, perhaps you can petition God in prayer for a better understanding through God's Word...

Are you referring to the Law of the Nazarite? Numbers 6
Elect to serve the LORD, set yourself aside for this service; follow these guidelines; when something goes awry; follow instructions to begin again. Continue this instruction to perfection.
It is the way to learn to handle the testament as it is written in the New Testament, "We have handled the New Testament with our own hands".
