Gin. The great vodkas taste like nothing, which makes vodka an adaptable mixer, but hardly a worthy spirit in and of itself. Gin is a completely different animal with one high end gin tasting completely different than the next - the infusion of botanicals, and the juniper basis make gin a much more complex and interesting spirit. Vodka, on the other hand, tastes 'hot'. It's literally potato (or similar starch) alcohol, and water. That's it. The better vodkas are nearly identical.

Gin. The more expensive a vodka, the less taste it has.
Gin is the opposite, the more expensive, the more complicated the flavor. And mixed drinks with gin are much more aromatic.

Vodka. Gin is nasty! If I can taste it I have to spit it out in the sink and then I drool the rest out.

I'm not kidding.
