I see a car cutting thru traffic with little regard for other drivers, often moving from the far right lane all the way to the left. Shortly thereafter, the driver repeats the process only to get off at the next exit on the right, pressing through traffic in each instance to achieve this. Did I miss something in drivers' training? Watch and see if you don't notice this.

I've seen it--a lot up near Phoenix. People are just in a hurry, I guess. If I know that I'm getting off soon, I try to get as close to the right as I can so I don't miss my exit.

If you live in a town with exits/on ramps close together then you'll notice that the on ramps end almost right where the off ramps start. This causes traffic issues, if the traffic coming up on an on ramp is still going slow (40-50mph) then I don't want to be stuck behind them waiting for them to accelerate because then I have to slow down and then the traffic behind me slows down and this is the beginning of bringing the freeway to a dead stop. I would rather change a lane over to avoid the slow merging traffic and then change back a few hundred feet after so that I'm minimizing the impact on traffic above me. Also staying in that right lane makes it more difficult for the merging traffic to get on the freeway, they have to slow down to find a spot and then you slow down because they slow down and eventually the freeway is going 15mph because you're bent on staying in that right lane.

What they foget in drivers ed is how to drive conciously. Every action you take on a freeway has a lasting impact on the traffic in every single lane around you. If you slow down to wait for merging traffic or in anticipation of an exit then all the traffic behind you slows down.

Ya, I have noticed that, and I do it myself. Its usually when I know an exit is coming in a few miles, but I dont want to wait behind some guy doing 55 when the fast lane is doing 80.

I could understand this if the driver just zoned out and forgot his exit was coming up. If someone does this regularly, he is an idiot and will probably be cause an accident.

I've seen them drive slow in the far left lane forever, then change all the way to the right lane so they can get off.....very nice....

This is not something I have observed in my years of watching for illegal acts.
