It will take a phenomenal something or other to shake someone out of it. I know from associating with someone who was the king of prevaricators.
That said, I have seen miraculous transformations in persons with this problem. The basic problem of a prevaricator is he feels to a painful degree that he is a total misfit, that he is so very different from others and his greatest fear his they will find him out. The cure starts when the person is forced to see that is the problem. I knew someone who experienced his being different as a great, ever present anxiety and he was fortunate enough to discover yoga and meditation. He was a genuinely good and sincere student and was able after a long, long time to accept the teaching that his innermost self was the same as that of all others. That it was pure and untainted, the highest truth and that he was himself that very truth. This relieved his anxiety and he was able to go through a slow but gradual process of learning to be with others without experiencing overwhelming anxiety and being vulnerable. He persevered with prescribed yoga practices of getting detached from thoughts and emotions in meditation and the constant repetition of mantras received from his yoga teacher/guru. He eventually became a poised, even sociable and very different human being. It was certainly a miraculous transformation. So I hold out hope for all similar sufferers.

What's the age of this habitual prevaricator?

A child...odds are good.

A teen...well, maybe.

A young adult...possible but not likely.

A middle to older adult...don't wait around to see.

I don't know if their life is so boring they lie for sport or if they have so little regard for others they lie just to lie. I have no respect for liars.
