i know this is really odd, but does anyone elses dog have a thing for knickers? my 2 dogs are a pain, one is a large dalmation and he decided to steal my granny's knickers and run round the neighbourhood with them in his mouth! i also read about a dog that had to have surgery cuz he kept eating knickers. does anyone know why dogs love knickers so much?

HA!!! I was at my boyfriends grandmothers house with his whole family. We were on vacation and there poodle when in my bag and ran through the house with my undies in her mouth. Did I mention the whole family was there, Aunts, Uncles, cousins? Oh boy! That is the strongest scent that dogs get from us. It's a comfort to them to smell you.

Well, if they're dirty knickers, they're fragrant to the dog. Also, and most importantly, your dog has learned that if he steals knickers, he gets a big reaction out of everybody. So when he wants attention and a reaction, he's going to steak knickers.

It's not really odd and I don't know why, but dogs love to eat panties. My dog used to do it constantly when she was younger. Only advice...keep them in a closed hamper and if you catch the dog in action, a water bottle and simple disiplining should do the trick. Best of luck to you and your granny's knickers.

Not really that odd...dogs are highly sensitive to "personal" scents (just think about how they say "hello" to one another).
As for eating them, you shouldn't have a problem unless your dog has a tendency to eat other things as well. My dog loves to chew, and he will swallow anything that he chews into small bits. So I'm careful not to let him get rubber toys, shoes and other "soft" items in general.

my spaniel is the same way and has been since she was a pup, she just LOVES to chew on the crotch of undies. i think its just because it has our scent on them. as for surgery, thats a big possibility because if they eat them, they can become an obstruction and it could kill them
