I have to say that a wedding is just one day and your business can be your way of life for the remainder of your lives! I can't imagine someone wanting to spend all of that money on an event rather than their lives! Explain to her your concerns and that you don't feel it is the responsible thing to do. Maybe you could alot a certain smaller amount to go towards your wedding, but I would never blow it all and loos the money to start up a business!
Good luck-talk to her and explain it! If you can't come to terms with this, then you have bigger problems on your hands because you two are already having problems with money and decisions!
Hate it for you!

The key to a successful marriage is comprise and communication and support for each others goals in life - if she can't do that, then you shouldn't be getting married. You have worked hard to save that money and you can build a successful business to support you and your future wife so why throw it away on 1 day. On the other hand, because you love her, you want her to have a very memorable day and that does cost money - maybe suggest postponing the wedding until your business picks off the ground and you start making a profit. Or suggest a lower key wedding as a compromise i.e. spend some of the £7,000 and postpone your business plans for a year or so.
Good luck.

Do you want a business or a girlfriend. I always wanted to travel the world but I got married and had two children instead. I never questioned the fact that I may have made a wrong decision apart from the few months before I got married. I sometimes wonder after 40 years married though. lol.

Business all that way!!! When your successful you can spend a whole lot more on your big day as £7000 is not alot for a wedding budget these days!

The first guy has a point. I must ask though, wouldn't your girlfriends parents pay for the wedding? I am not sure where you live, but here in the US it is normal for the bride's parents to pay. If not, then I would talk to your g/f about the benefits of opening your own business. It will help you guys in the long run. I am sure it would be great to have a nice wedding, but think about what would affect your future.

Explain to her that the business is for the both of you! you spend the money now on setting up a business, which hopefully do well and go from strength to strength, and before you know it you'd have enough money to have the Dream Wedding and Honeymoon! If she loves you and wants the best for the both of you, then she'll see sense!

Start the business. Either put off getting married until the business is up and running or have a small ceremony. I know your girlfriend will probably hate this answer...but it is the sensible thing to do.

I would say put the money towards the business. The Business will make your future, you can get married anytime. But if you pass this one chance by, you may live to regret it.

Ask your girlfriend how a day in her life compares with the prospect of a future - talk about it, don't get mad, discuss the pros and cons of the business and whatever you decide make sure you both agree or you'll start off life together on the wrong foot. That's how I'd do it - good luck

Spend it on the business: tell her its for both your futures & that a thriving business will be much more useful than a nice wedding day once you have kids. You might have to compromise a little though, as its a special day for her.
