No that's not at all what it means. It means that Jesus had the power over life and death and he voluntarily let his spirit free to complete His mission on earth. This release caused His death and remember, He was reunited with His body three days after His Crucifixion and brought forth the promise of the Resurrection to mankind. This is the cliff notes version, it goes a lot deeper that that.

The word translated "ghost" in that passage is normally translated "breath". It means he quit breathing. He died.

Has nothing to do with the Holy Spirit (which is a different word in the original language).

Tell me Mr., what planet do you come from. Jesus Christ has always been and will always be {THE} HolyGhost. Why do you think you are somehow still alive {today} to be at liberty to talk on this highly sensative subject. You, my friend are just one out of an infinite array of lively personas being taught the whole {TRUTH} of what its like to know the battle between good and evil in every respect.

The word "ghost" is from Old English, or Anglo-Saxon "gast" which meant "spirit" or "soul," so in the context of the verse you mentioned, it means that Jesus released his spirit from his body.

"to give up the ghost" means that the spirit of the person leaves the body which is to say that the person dies, as we think of it.

no, it means his spirit left his body, he died. It is just like it means now. When someone gives up the ghost it means they have died. The spirit is our soul basically.
