If he is biting and licking you, just re-direct his attention to a toy he can chew on. Puppies are just like babies and they like to chew on things when they are teething. Many pet stores have toys that can be refridgerated and given to your pet.
If he is biting and licking himself, it could be anything from skin problems to nervousness. Have him checked out at the vets office.

When I first got my dog, she was a 6 week old lab mix. She chewed on everything from the bookcase, to my dining set, my very expensive art books, clothes and yes, even me. It is something that they grow out of but I did hire a trainer to come to my home and it was a combination of things that stopped the chewing/licking/biting issues. Keep a water bottle handy so that if the dog does ANYTHING wrong, squit him/her and keep the words of discipline very simple. Bad girl/boy or of course no...I'm sure you knew that already. Another trick is to get this product called Bitter Apple. Put it on whatever the dog is chewing or biting...even yourself, but be careful that you don't get a taste of it...it's like sucking on a rubber band! Keep chew toys or ropes nearby as well to direct their chewing elsewhere. It takes a lot of discipline for you and your dog, but it will all be much less stressful for you in the end. Good luck!

Ok hello,
Yes you are most probably correct, he is most likely t ogrow out of this as they go through a teething stage, it also depends on the breed of the dog example: labradors are likelier to chew than most other dogs.
Training the dog by taking its mind of chewing and licking is easy just simply give it his/her toy and prasie her for playing with it.
Good Luck

Bites and licks himself or you?
If it's himself, check with a vet. If he has an allergy or mites, he won't grow out of it, until it's been treated
If it's you, NO he will not just grow out of it. If you just ignore it and allow it to continue, it could escalate as he gets bigger.
When he bites you or another person, pinch his lip and in a low growling voice tell him "NOOO BITE". He will more than likely try again, pinch him a little harder and repeat "NOOO BITE". It's not going to kill him if you make him yipe. The instant bite (pinch) and the growl simulates what whould happen if an adult dog were to correct him.

Training is always a cure all. You don't want to reprimand a puppy or dog for something it does naturally. Playing with his mouth (bitting, nipping, mouthing etc. is normal dog behavior).
Teach your dog sit and down. When he gets to be to much get him to sit or even down. It'll help him relax a bit and not get to worked up and keep YOU in charge.
Also have a stop word - "Enough or Stop" When you say that word the puppy should know that he/she should sit automatically and stop what he/she is doing.
Good Luck.

He'll grow out of it. My dog was like that when she was a puppy. Drove us all crazy, and we never thought she'd get over it.
You should try to control it somewhat even though at puppyhood he'll continue to try. Teach him what is appropriate to chew and what isn't. Otherwise your hand/arm will become your dog's favorite chew thing.

he will grow out of some of it. when he bites, hit him on the nose and yell NO! this should teach him that biting is bad. licking is not a problem, i would work with the biting part. because as he grows older you dont want him to bite your house guests!

If he's biting and licking himself - get him checked out at the vet. If it's you he's gnawing on, he'll grow out of it. Give him a lot of toys to tear up.

IT MAY SOUND A BIT HARSH, BUT I PROMISE IT DOESN'T HURT THEM AS BAD AS THEY MAKE IT SOUND. WHEN HE BITES YOU , DON'T JUST LET HIM DO IT. GRAB ON TO HIS BOTTOM JAW AND PULL IT TO HIS CHEST, HE'LL SQUIRM AND CRY, BUT IT WORKS, I PROMISE. AND LIKE THAT ONE PERSON SAID, SAY "NOOO BITE!" DON'T YELL, JUST USE A DEEP FIRM VOICE. AND DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION FOR A FEW MINUTES. tHEY LEARN THIS WAY THAT IT ISN'T OKAY AND IT REALLY HURTS THEIR FEELINGS MORE THAN IT HURTS THEM AS DOGS. DON'T DO IT TOO MUCH, BECAUSE THEN YOU WILL REALLY HURT HIS PRIDE, IF MY APPROACH DOESN'T WORK, TRY ANOTHER. T ALL REALLY DEPENDS ON THE PERSONALITY OF THE DOG.
