What I mean is if they could legally.

Don't run and you won't put your self in the position in the first place.
And no, the police can't (because it's against the law) for any police officer to cause harm upon another, but if that other decides that after the chase, he/she wants to fight, then that person will get the crap beat out of them.
Just common sense.

As I am not a fan of being beaten I would have to say no. However the thought of being in the custody of the gestapo (oops, police) make me say I would run as fast as I could.
Of course if the cop in question was actually a stripper in costume then the beating may be wanted. Just saying...

they beat the crap out of people for running now. I would probably run just so i didn't have to get beat up. that should have been the question.

No, you should never run from a police offer because:
1. it implies guilt
2. you could put yourself in harm
3. you could put officers in harm
4. you could put civilians in harm
5. K-9 units can run faster

hell no, but In a way they can because they have tazers and they hurt like heck so I dont run from them anyway. I figure if I can't do the time then i wont do the crime.

Cops routinely beat/stun/shoot people anyway, whether they run or not.
