Probably not an infection, but you do run the risk of getting dry sockets which is incredibly painful.
I did find after I had my wisdom teeth out that pot was a nice augmentation to my pain pills. What I mean is, it made me sleep a lot.
It's probably better to wait a few days before smoking again just because you really don't want dry sockets and sometimes the suction of hitting a bowl or a joint can put pressure on any stitches and they could rupture which would suck bad.

You should wait at least 48 hours to smoke, drink out of a straw, or eat very hot or very cold foods. You should also rinse very gently. Doing these things can cause dry socket and it is very painful and no fun to treat. You have to go back to the dentist often to change the dressing that they use to heal the area. So, not worth it!
Good Luck!

Don't even think about it. The pot won't hurt you at all, but the dry socket will leave you wanting to kill yourself. Seriously, it's that bad.

Dry socket, it is not a good idea at all. The amount of pain you will be in from it is not worth it. It can wait till they have healed over.
