I want to buy a used Honda Civic and was looking for any suggestions that people have. Are there certain Honda Civic specific issues that I should be looking out for? Are there certain years that are better than others..I don't want to go earlier than a 2001 model and would prefer to spend less than 10 000...

Thanks!

The Honda Civic is one of the best used cars on the market. They have very little problems (if any), last forever and have excellent resale value. In terms of which years to stay away from I can't think of any recent years that were bad. The one thing I can advise you on is, if you look at more recent models you will have more safety features available (side airbags ABS ). The closer you get to the 01 model the less amount of safety features will be available.

I bought a 03 Honda Civic 1.5 years ago. Best car I ever bought. Go to a Honda Dealer in your area and buy a Certified Used one so you'll be sure to still have a warranty if you want one but you may never need it. These cars are the best on the road and I have never had one problem . I just keep up the maintenance (oil change etc) as the handbook advises.MY Car is very reliable and worth every penny I spent. I live in Florida and drive to South Carolina 2 x a month with it.

i have a 97 Honda Civic EX that I bought in 99 with 25,000 miles on it. I have LOVED this car and have had very little trouble with it-just the usual maintenance, brakes, etc. My next car will be a Civic as well.

That's the thing! Buying a Honda, you don't need to think - like with ford, chevy, etc. - what year they had bad trans, and what - engine, and what do I value more.
I am not aware of any TYPICAL defects any Honda model has.
However, over the last few years, their quality has significantly diminished.... sad but true.

The reason why Honda engines will go 400,000 miles is,they still use motorcycle (aircooled engine) grade aluminum pistons.
