You almost always do as well or better by filing jointly. But figure it both ways and file however is better for you.

You'll just have to prepare your return both ways to see. There are some threshholds that get drastically lowered when you are married filing separately.

It's too complicated to just say without all the facts. A good CPA should be able to answer it when they are preparing your return(s).

We just asked this of our cpa last week. he said it doesn't really matter, it's all the same. The exception would be if you had children or one was self-employed and needing some coverage on taxes.
