I live in IL and was visiting a casino in California where they play craps with cards instead of dice. Why in the world are the laws in California against dice games?

DIANNA why in heavens name would you play craps in any form that doesn't have repeating numbers.

They use cards in CALIFORNIA because when the casinos 1st brought it up some social do gooders thought it had to much of a back alley street flavour and tried to stop it.So the casinos opted for cards. How this changes the game is so slight it's not worth mentioning but you can be sure it doesn't favor the unskilled player.

I wasn't aware that it was the law. The card version of craps is used to eliminate the dice from the game - players can't cheat by switching dice and the "roll" is truly always random. When dice are new on a crap game they will roll numbers in a "pattern" repeating some numbers often and as they are thrown repeatedly the edges wear off and the "pattern" changes to other numbers. The cards eliminate these repeating numbers and keeps the numbers truly random.
