God said...

Mark 10:9-12 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.

11 And he saith unto them, Whosoever shall put away his wife, and marry another, committeth adultery against her.

12 And if a woman shall put away her husband, and be married to another, she committeth adultery.

Moses asked God this...

Matthew 19:8-9 He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so.

9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.

So the only way God accepts divorce is only if one of the spouces have committed adultery/fornication.

But so many people today remarry their former spouces, and God does not permit that either.... Why because they don't turn to God and ask Him what they are to do. They just do as they please and that is the wrong thing.

Dueteronomy 24:3-4 And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement, and giveth it in her hand, and sendeth her out of his house; or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;

4 Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife, after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before the LORD: and thou shalt not cause the land to sin, which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance.

Divorce is only allowed by God if your spouce has committed adultery against you, then you are free to remary, but they are not, becasue anyone they marry, they will cause them to commit adultery as well, because they married an adulterer.

First of all, the bible is meant to be a guide. One translation of the bible is Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth. This is where people get lost when we tend to take things literally word by word. Bible is holy and being holy means that everything that is written are solutions to our problems. If for some reason, we are always confused and finding all the negative thoughts in the bible, I’d say we need to check our own heart. You have to remember even the devil reads the bible and goes to church. His job is to seek and to destroy every way he can. The question is, which side are you on? In the Old Testament, divorce was not allowed because it says in the scriptures that no one can separate what God put together. In the New Testament, divorce was still not allowed, but because of our stubbornness that it was allowed. That's the only reason behind it.

As a christian, I would not refer to not divorcing as a basic belief. The book of Malachi says that "He is hating a divorcing". Part of the marriage vow is not to let any man put apart what God has yoked together. If a man or woman commits adultery it is a violation of these vows because they have become "yoked" with someone outside of the marriage. He is a loving God and understands that sometimes we may not be able to forgive such a treacherous act of betrayal. So under these circumstances, divorce is allowed(Matthew 19:9). But if the one that has been betrayed has intercourse with the guilty partner this should be evidence of forgiveness. The innocent one would no longer have scriptural grounds for divorce, and should pray for the ability to forgive their partner. After all, sometimes trials strengthen marriages. Today, unfortunately, marriages are not considered sacred or worth saving by most people.
Another "basic" belief of a christian is that all must believe in the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins and his resurrection from death to return to rule beside his Father. We try our best as imperfect humans to follow the example of Jesus. When he was asked what the most important law was he replied in Luke 10:27 " You must love God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole strength and with your whole mind and (love) your neighbor as yourself." I would say that is imperitive as Christian.

You can divorce. But not for nonsense. It has to be scriptural based, ( Adultery) The ten commandments are a good start.

well, even though you can divorce, Christians believe that Jesus came to save us, and died to cover our sins, so that we may enter heaven. They also believe in the Old Testament, that there is a Messiah, and that MEssiah is Jesus

Aha, well that fixes the "devours" problem... now, since WHEN do Christians believe you can't divorce? The Vatican has clear guidlines on it but approves of it... in certain cases...

"Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent" (John 6:28-29).
THIS is what the Christian believes: whatever Jesus the Messiah/Christ said is what God says, and we follow Christ by obeying Him.
To your question, Jesus Himself said that the one exception to His "no divorce" rule is adultery.
