We have a chihuahua daschund that is 8 years old. We potty trained him and he would sneak in a squirt in the house here and there but lately he's gotten worse. We have tried getting him a diaper, but he manages to slip out of it. We've also put him in a kennel during the day and he will do it at night. I got home today and he peed on the blanket on the couch. Our family is getting to the point where we want to get rid of him but we don't have the hearts to do it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry I forgot to add that we have taken him to the vet and have gotten tests but they say nothing is wrong!

A sudden increase in urination may be caused by a medical problem (like impending diabetes or a UTI). Considering your dog's age, we suggest having your dog checked by a vet before you do anything else.
If his behavior is caused because he's bored and retaliatory, making sure he has plenty mind-challenging toys and lots of exercise will help to focus his attention away from pottying indoors.

I have a chihuahua terrier and she does the same thing! It is so bad she has to sleep in her crate and be in it during the day while I am at work. I have tried EVERYTHING! Nothing is working, I too am getting to the point where I want to get rid of her, but I do love her...
Try keeping him in the crate during the day, have him go outside first thing when you get home, same thing first thing in the morning. I have to keep an eye on my dog or she does the same thing. It seems like I am taking her out every hour or so just so she doesnt pee on the floor. I also have a problem with her pooping in the floor, I will let her out to go pee, she will promptly come in the house and poop on the floor! I think a big part of it is because they are part Chihuahua, these types of dogs are extremely hard to potty train. Everyone I know that has a Chihuahua or a dog that is part Chihuahua has the same problem... It is frustrating!

It sounds to me like that the dog is getting your attention or possible have problems with bladder, like can't tell if he is peeing and etc, suggest go to Vet, they might have helpful tips how to help him not pee all over, if that doesn't work, then maybe it is time to put the dog in sleep (hate to say this but it is possible best for a "old dog".) Hope you find this helpful.

when a dog suddenly starts going in the house, it could be a sign that he has a urinary tract infection. take him to the vet to make sure it isn't health related. try not to be angry with him, he might just not be able to help it because he is sick!

he may have a bladder infection. My cat started peeing in plants when she did. It's like a "hey I can't talk, but check me out" kinda thing,

ive tried litter boxes for dogs just as cats use it and leave it in the house somewhere it might just work. It can also be that he might have kidney problems have him checked.

Your dog needs to be seen, having incontinance at this age would indicate something is wrong inside the dog, bladder cancer maybe, there's something causing it to happen, the dog is not doing it on purpose, so please be kind to the little guy. Call pronto, please. Good luck.

He's either sick or pissed.
Was there a recent change in the family? New baby, husband, etc.?
