does anyone know if the smith and wesson custom shop does work reccessing the cylinder chambers on its revolvers for customers..the old revolvers used to have this

yes I agree I am wanting to do this with the x frame pistols that smith and wesson is now making aka 500 magnum

If you recess the cylinder you Will have to get a longer firing pin to reach the primers. There may not be room enough in the upper part of the frame (where the pin is located) for that long of a pin.
Might be easier and cheaper to simply find one of the older S&W revolvers with the recessed cylinder.
Cylinders were recessed in order to provide support for high pressure rounds. Advances in metals made the process unnecessary.
I would suspect that the only revolver you can still recess cylinders on is the "N" frame. A call to the S&W custom shop will get you the answer you need.
