Fosamax is a bisphosphonate used to increase bone reabsorption of calcium. It is available as tablets to be taken either once a day or once a week. The same is true with Actonel. Boniva is the newest in this class and is taken once a month. Their purpose is to treat and prevent osteoporosis.
